On April 7, 2014, Alabama State Legislature passed the Alabama Expungement Bill, which allowed Alabama residents who have been charged — but not convicted — of a nonviolent felony or misdemeanor to erase or expunge their record. There are special stipulations to this law, however. To be considered for expungement for misdemeanor offenses, the charges must be dismissed with prejudice, no-billed by a grand jury, and the defense must be found not guilty, or the charges must have been dismissed without prejudice two years prior to your expungement claim, without being refiled.

Felony charges are, of course, more difficult to expunge. The act only allows for expungement of nonviolent felonies and could include completion of programs such as drug treatment or mental health treatment.

If you have criminal charges on your record that are keeping you from advancing your career, obtaining housing or simply want a clean slate, talk to our qualified Alabama expungement team today.

We are a team of legal professionals with "big city" experience and small town values, and we believe everyone deserves a chance to start over. If expunged, the act deems that the charges essentially never happened, and you are not obligated to discuss the charges on job or credit applications, except in certain situations.

While not all records are able to be expunged, Agricola Law understands the rights of our clients and will do what we can to help your case. By working systematically through the process of expungement, we help many individuals avoid the issues of having criminal charges haunt them for a lifetime.
